Antiques, Modern twist to Chado & Jazz – Fun October Events to Check Out!

As the weather starts to change and the temperature begins to drop, here are some fun indoor events you may wish to check out!

Through October 11th – Catch the last days of the Kyoto Art & Antiques Sale in Georgetown!  Vintage clothing (haori starting from $10 & yukata from $25), textiles, artwork, tansu and more are available for great prices! While you’re in the neighborhood, Fran’s Chocolate HQ is a block away if you need a chocolate fix and Katsu Burger is just down the road if you’re craving a hand-dipped kinako-kurogoma milkshake & aonori fries to go along with your “Godzilla Attack” katsu burger!

October 20 – 31 – Mugen/Infinity – Ceramic exhibition which introduces a new look to the traditional tea ceremony.  Local lighting designer/artist Yuri Kinoshita known for her beautiful lanterns, which can be seen at  local restaurants (Momiji, Girin, Kushi Bar, Miyabi & Sushi Kappo Tamura) ventures into the world of ceramics and challenges our preconceived image of how a Japanese tea ceremony is presented. Two Ryurei style tea ceremony demonstrations are scheduled for Oct. 23 & 24. (RSVP required to participate in tea ceremonies)

October 23 & 27 – Koto Jazz “Sounds from the Coast” – Seattle native Chris Kenji Beer will shares his unique take on jazz with two performances this month in collaboration with vocalist Marie Bolla.  What is “Koto Jazz”? It’s the fusion of traditional Japanese koto music and western jazz played on a piano.

Oct. 23rd: 7 – 9 pm @ C&P Coffee Company, West Seattle / Oct. 27th: 6 – 8 pm @ the Royal Room, Columbia City
