June 30th – Two Great Events: Walk for Rice & Pizza JET-Together!

Hey Ari, let’s take a bite out of hunger by leading the PNWJETAA Team for this year’s Walk for Rice!  Did you know that PNWJETAA has been participating in this event for 20 years ?!?  Wow!That’s over a century in dog years!”

Please help  PNWJETAA reach our goal of raising $2000 and recruiting at least 15 team members to celebrate our 20th year at the Walk for Rice!

Join PNWJETAA in fighting  hunger in our community one step at a time at the 2018 Walk for Rice!   Visit our PNW JET Alumni Association Team Page ( http://acrs.walkforrice.org/goto/2018-team-pnwjetaa)  and register TODAY!

The Walk for Rice is one of the most visible public outreach activities that PNW JETAA supports during the year. This event is a lot of fun and it is a great way to make a positive and immediate impact within our community!  Funds raised help provide sticky rice (the good stuff for making musubi!) & other culturally familiar groceries for the Asian Counseling and Referral Service Food Bank.

We also hope that some of the new 2018 JETs will join us, so it would be great to have a lot of JETAA members to answer questions and share advice with the new JETs, as they prepare for their new adventure in Japan!

Please lend your support to the PNW JET Alumni Association Team as either a runner, walker or team contributor! All JET alumni,  2018 JET Program participants, family members and friends are welcome to join our team – the more the merrier!

Calling all puppies & puppies at heart! To celebrate the YEAR OF THE DOG, we are inviting all of our team members to bring their well-behaved, canine companions to join our furry Co-Captains Ari and Yuki!

Minor Website Updates

We’re looking at updating a few things on the website, but in the meantime there’s a page for jobs, and a page where we’ll be keeping the agendas and minutes for our general meetings.

Currently we only have one job posted, but it’s still nice to have a single place to look. Hopefully we’ll have some more updates soon. In the meantime, this has been one of our most active years, yet! Check the calendar for a whole raft of cool stuff you could be doing!

2018 Election Results

Please welcome your new steering council!!

The wonderful and lovely Adam Ledyard will be president! Thank you for your hard work as treasurer, and congratulations on your new position!

The wonderful and lovely Michelle Kato will be vice president! You came to the rescue when we needed a new place to meet, and you’ve helped out immeasurably already! We’re excited to have you on board!

The wonderful and lovely Samantha Corpuz will be secretary! It’s the psychic backbone of our chapter, and it’s great to have new people on (the) board! I think I just sent a friend request to a random child with your name!

The wonderful and lovely Zack WIlliams will be treasurer! It’s the fiscal backbone of our chapter, and we’re lucky to have somebody take the position that can combine responsibility with his laid-back, like-able charm!

The wonderful and lovely Jessica Record will be managing Transitions, our career and networking event! It’s logistically our biggest event of the year for, but Jessica’s got what it takes — in spades!

The wonderful and lovely Miranda Barril will be working on a newsletter! It’s a whole new project that takes a lot of discipline and vision to see through! Another newcomer for our chapter, too! Yesss!

Maybe if we’re lucky they’ll take a nice big group picture soon!

2018 Council Elections!

PNWJETAA is excited for a new year, and new council members!

If you haven’t already done so, please take just a minute see who’s on the ballot this year and vote!

Volunteering with our chapter is a great way to have fun, meet cool people, and help out the community. It’s not a big commitment, and it’s not too late to get involved. If there’s something you’d like to try, ask us! Don’t spend those warm summer days indoors.

Where: TanakaSan – 2121 6th Ave, Seattle (Via 6)

Join us for a fresh edition of Nomikai + Networking at TanakaSan. At this month’s event, we will be joined by a representative of Japan-America Society of Washington (JASSW), so come and take advantage of this opportunity to grow your network while sipping a sake slushy!

This event will follow our monthly council meeting at Westlake Tower, so please feel free to join the meeting for insight on our chapter’s upcoming happenings. We will head down the street to TanakaSan at 7pm!

TanakaSan’s booze menu is broadly Asian, with several varieties of the Japanese spirit shochu and its Korean variant soju, Asian lagers and Japanese whiskies, cocktails mixed with Eastern flavors like five-spice and ginger and green-tea ice cubes, and chuhai: the fruity, fizzy Japanese cocktails that TanakaSan brings to the table in the form of playful mix-it-yourself kits with cold-pressed juices.

Non-alcoholic options include fresh fruit and vegetable juice combos, smoothies, coffees (including long-steeped cold brew and slow-dripped Kyoto coffees), mocktails, and a full slate of Remedy teas.
